What Agents Hand Off in Social and Video Content, and What Stalls It

Updated

Bottom line: Hand off the planning, scheduling and video editing first. Keep final sign-off on brokerage name and Fair Housing wording, and plan for posting to stall when a deal comes in.

What social media work can you hand off first?

Start with the planning and scheduling. HousingWire's October 2025 guide to agent social media suggests a single weekly hour for planning and scheduling posts.

That hour is a fixed, repeatable task. An assistant can build the week's batch from ideas you approve, and you check it before anything goes out.

Give whoever posts for you a content mix to follow. A 2018 article on agent social media practices sets an 80/20 rule across platforms. Lifestyle, audience interests and other updates fill 80 percent of the posts, and the other 20 percent is about you and your business.

What part of video can someone else take on?

Production and editing are the clearest handoffs. HousingWire's November 2023 column on agent video says to hire a professional videographer or buy quality editing software, if the budget allows.

Give the editor a length to cut to. HousingWire's column suggests clips of about two minutes, especially on the short-video apps it names, and no longer than five.

Reporting can go too. HousingWire's column recommends simple analytics tools that show how each video does on reach, views and conversions. Someone else can pull those numbers and bring them to you each week.

Why does posting stall when deals come in?

HousingWire quoted a content-platform chief executive in May 2026 on why agents stop posting. As HousingWire reported it, agents get inspired by a class, post for a few days, then drop it once a deal comes in.

That vendor offers automation as the answer. HousingWire reports the company's own claim that its software builds a two-week calendar from MLS listings, market data and local news.

Ideas are the other bottleneck. HousingWire's October 2025 guide says most agents burn out hunting for new ideas when plenty of usable ones are already in front of them. Pulling those back out and reworking them is a job you can hand off.

What stays on your desk after the handoff?

Sign-off stays with you, whoever drafts the post. HousingWire's October 2025 guide says to include your brokerage name when required and to avoid wording that could breach Fair Housing laws.

HousingWire's guide also advises a second look at anything that could read as misleading. Make that check part of your review of each batch before it is scheduled.

Questions & answers

What do Sugar Land agents ask about this?

How many social platforms should I hand off to an assistant at once?

Start with one or two. HousingWire's October 2025 guide on agent social media advises choosing one or two platforms and staying with them until you find a rhythm that works. The same advice carries over to a handoff: name the platforms in the brief, and give whoever posts for you time on them before adding another.

The same HousingWire guide pairs the platform advice with a set planning hour each week. That gives the routine two parts: which channels, and when the batch gets built. Put both in writing for whoever takes the work. If you also produce video, check the platforms in your brief against the clip lengths your editor is cutting to.

Is a custom social media manager worth paying more than a template subscription?

HousingWire's June 2026 review of marketing companies describes the trade-off without settling it. The template subscription HousingWire covers gives unlimited access to agent-made templates, content calendars, trending audio and strategy. The HousingWire review also notes that some agents question whether a social media manager and custom designs, which cannot be repeated elsewhere online, are worth the higher price.

The question to settle is how much of your feed can look like other agents' feeds. Shared templates go to many subscribers at once, while custom design is made for one. Weigh that against your budget and the commitment term before you sign. Either way, the final read of each post stays with you.

How long do marketing companies usually want me to sign up for?

Expect about three months. HousingWire's June 2026 review says the most reliable marketing companies typically require at least a three-month commitment, so a campaign stays sustained and effective. Budget for that full term before you sign, and settle in advance what gets delivered each month so you can judge the work when the term ends.

The same HousingWire review lists done-for-you services beyond website design: PPC advertising, SEO, content creation and social media marketing. Ask whether the minimum term covers every service a firm offers or only some of them. Ask, too, which pieces can be dropped or added once the first three months are over.
